Objectives

We are a local cancer charity working to improve the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people across Coventry and Warwickshire who are struggling with their cancer diagnosis and treatment. We provide a range of services supporting the whole family unit throughout their journey with childhood cancer, and beyond it.

We are unique in that we are the only charity locally to provide a dedicated cancer support centre outside of hospital, within the heart of the community. Our cancer support centre, in Rugby, represents a place where beneficiaries can take time away from the clinical environment, meet others going through similar experiences, recharge and have a break - allowing them to open up about concerns.

Our community café is open to the public five days a week offering the local community a warm and welcoming environment that they can spend time in.

As a result of our work, our beneficiaries (children, young people and the whole family) report:

-reduced isolation, for young people with a recent cancer diagnosis, feeling frightened and overwhelmed is common. It is important that they have an outlet where they can convey their concerns and worries and understand that they are not alone

-improved mental wellbeing, opportunities to come together as a group are very important for mental wellbeing. Our services help improve an individuals mood, outlook and state of mind

-reduced anxiety, therapeutic group support helps young people to manage and navigate the emotions and fears they experience and take strength and reassurance from their peers.

Activities

We deliver a wide range of structured activity sessions and groups and informal support, such as coffee mornings and drop-ins from our centre.

We run sessions for parent, whole family groups and a teenagers' respite support group. Bringing young cancer patients together in a safe and supportive environment is a vital part of their recovery process and helps to alleviate distress and improve wellbeing. We host social events and days out to overcome isolation and its negative effects. Families share fun and enriching activities with others going through similarly traumatic times.

We provide free and confidential counselling for any child or parent/carer, delivered by highly specialist sessional counsellors and therapists. We offer our counselling service to any adult or child living in Coventry and Warwickshire, that is affected by cancer of any type. We offer bereavement counselling to any parent who has lost their child to child, to help them to work through their grief at their own pace.
