Objectives

We are proud to say that we are one of the few remaining toy libraries. We have families that travel as far away as Birstall (13 miles) to use our toy loan facility. As well as loaning out a wonderful selection of toys at affordable prices, we have a stay and play session that involves carers and (grand) parents. We employ two part time paid staff who are qualified to level 3 in child care and education. We also have several volunteers, who help to run this operation, two of whom have additional needs. We open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings term time.

Activities

The stay and play sessions are a good opportunity for adults as well as children to socialize and we also offer advice should carers require it.During the stay and play sessions, children have the opportunity to get creative be it with craft themes or singing etc. We follow a theme or topic for the different terms.

Our membership fees only cover a third of our outgoings, the rest is obtained through grants and fundraising.

Shepshed Toy Library needs additional trustees to oversee its management. The toy library has operated for over 30 years, providing toy loans and play sessions to young children and their families.  It is now a charitable company limited by guarantee.  It employs two part-time staff who run the library on a day to day basis, and who co-ordinate the work of a team of volunteers.
The trustees (who are also the directors) meet about every two months. They are responsible for planning and taking decisions about the toy library’s finances and its activities to make sure it is run properly (although they do not have financial liability for it). The toy library would welcome interest from committed and enthusiastic people with a variety of skills and experiences to help it manage its finances and plan for the future.
