Social isolation and loneliness are becoming more of a high-profile problem in the UK. Social isolation and loneliness are conditions that are generally perceived to affect older people. While it is true that these conditions may be more prevalent in the older generations, they can occur at all stages of the life-course.
Social isolation and loneliness areas of need that was quickly identified during our food delivery operations between 2014-2022, and to make impact we introduced a number of wellbeing seminars, workshops, and activities to integrate the lonely and socially excluded into society.
Our help matters as social isolation and loneliness has an effect on mental health and can impact on a person’s physical health too. If we can make changes in these areas - then it is possible that Sharing is Caring can reduce GP Visits, A&E Visits, hospital admission, reduce the likelihood of entry into care, reduce short term healthcare cost of treatment, reduce the loss of quality years of life, reduce obesity. Some of the positive changes that the impact of our services can have are - relieving stress through planned walks and exercise sessions, reducing health problems such as heart disease, depression, and improving cognitive decline. Research extensively done on social isolation and loneliness shows that it also improves goal setting, reduces unemployment and boosts a person’s mood.
We host workshops, seminars, fun days, sensory sessions, day clubs and a befrienders service for the benefit of everyone in the community.
