Objectives

Our primary objectives are twofold: first, to ensure the successfully integration of refugee families into their new community, and second, to empower and support them in achieving independent living. Integration is about fostering a sense of belonging, where refugees are not only welcomed but also actively participate in the social, cultural, and economic aspects of their new environment. We work towards creating an inclusive and supportive community where everyone feels valued and can contribute their unique skills and experiences. Facilitating independent living is equally important. We aim to equip refugee families with the necessary skills, resources, and knowledge to lead self-sufficient lives. This includes access to education, employment opportunities, vovational training and the development of life skills. Our goal is to empower individuals and families to make informed choices and navigate their new life with confidence. Together, these objectives create a holistic approach to resettlement, ensuring that refugee families not only survive but thrive in their new community, becoming active, self-reliant, and fulfilled members of society."

Activities

Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees works in close partnership with Sevenoaks District Council, Kent County Council and the support agency Clarion Housing Association, who are commissioned by KCC. We provide local practical support to refugee families in our area - welcoming, help with learning English, finding jobs, providing lifts, sourcing necessary household items, and making small grants - and find private landlords willing to take part in the government-funded rent payment scheme.

We plan and facilitate social outings to enable our refugee families to meet other refugee families from our Syrian/Afghanistian/Ukrainian communities. These social events help enhance social interaction and understanding within the local community.
