Objectives

Seed International Fund Trust (SIFT) is a Christian development charity which works amongst the poor of Nicaragua, Central America.  Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the Americas after Haiti, with 39% of the population living on less than £2 a day.  SIFT is working to bring hope and security to the poor of Nicaragua through Christian outreach and projects in the areas of health, education, housing and freedom from sexual exploitation.  Our projects are based on the island of Ometepe, in the town of Bluefields, and in the localities of Managua and Granada.

Activities

SIFT's current projects in Nicaragua consist of:

  • Running three health clinics on the island of Ometepe to provide affordable primary healthcare to rural communities.
  • Sponsoring the education of around 140 children and young people, from primary school through to university.
  • Supporting the work of a Christian orphanage, which is home to around 50 children and young people.
  • Funding a project to support young women who have been, or are at risk of being, victims of sexual exploitation.
  • Developing a new community on the Asese peninsula to provide homes for islander families.
  • Supporting the ministry of churches and Christians in various areas of Nicaragua.
