The Save The David Lean Cinema Campaign seeks to enhance the cultural life of Croydon. We show a wide range of films, many of which have not been seen elsewhere in Croydon. We reach out to the community of a diverse Borough by our commitment to world cinema and by .showing films to mark events such as Black History Month, LGTB events, Holocaust Memorial and International Women's Day. We meet the needs of special groups such as those suffering from dementia and those caring for small children. Our aim is to enable local residents to see films which they would not otherwise see. We also provide opportunities for volunteering - we have about 90 volunteers from a range of backgrounds
We show films four or five times a week in the David Lean Cinema a small auditorium in the centre of Croydon - nearly 200 showings a year. Last year we sold nearly 10,000 tickets and attracted good audiences - about 70% of capacity.
