The main objective of Samaritans of stoke & Newcastle is to reduce the incidence of death by suicide but we also support anyone in distress of any kind. Samaritans provide a 24/7 support service to anyone distressed or in despair by a freephone telephone line, e-mail and text, and our branch is open for face to face visits. We are also committed to local outreach work to make our service known.
Listener volunteers answer phone calls, emails and letters from people in emotional distress, including those contemplating taking their lives. Members of the public also call in for face to face support. We also take part in outreach activities such as attending Gay Pride, giving talks to organisations and providing support at railway stations. We provide these services from our centre in Burslem.
As well as listening volunteers we also need people to help us with accounting, publicity, fundraising, outreach, building maintenance and general admin.
