Objectives

Samaritans vision is that fewer people die by suicide. We offer a safe place for anyone to contact us either by phone, email or text, around the clock. We will also see callers face to face at our branch each day between 11am to 10pm. We are here for anyone who needs someone who will listen without judgement whatever they might be going through.

Activities

Our branch is run completely by volunteers, we have no paid staff at all. Our volunteers give a minimum of four hours per week to man the phones as well as answering emails and texts plus seeing any visitors who come to the branch wanting to talk through their problems. On top of their listening hours many volunteers have added roles within the branch to keep it up and running. We also have support volunteers who don’t have a listening role but have equally important roles in helping to run the branch.  We also have a very active Outreach team who work within the local community to raise awareness of what we do and offer support to those who need it. We offer support to our local homeless shelter, our two local prisons plus our local college. We give talks and training to firms and organisations too.  Currently we have 100 volunteers in branch.
