Objectives

We are the Bognor Regis, Chichester & District Branch of the Samaritans. Whilst the Samaritans is a national charity, our Branch is run and managed entirely by local volunteers, with its own governance agreement. We are responsible for our own finances and self sufficient in raising the funds to cover Branch running costs, recruitment and training.

The Samaritans is a listening service for anyone struggling to cope, day or night, 365 days a year. In the UK someone dies by suicide every 90 minutes. Nationally, we answer a call for help every six seconds. We provide emotional support via phone, email and (pre-Covid) face to face to meetings. Our vision is that fewer people die by suicide. Our mission is to make sure there is someone there for anyone who needs someone, to give people ways to cope and to campaign to make suicide prevention a national and local priority.

Activities

Our Branch currently has around 95 active volunteers. We listen to people of any age, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, disability or role. We work in partnership with organisations such as Stonepillow, our local homeless charity, Southern Rail and secondary schools and FE/HE institutions to run workshops to raise awareness of mental wellbeing and resilience, as well as participating in and running events within the local community.
