Objectives

The Royal Pavilion and Museums Foundation was established in 1972 to raise funds to support the Royal Pavilion and Museums service (RPM). The charity's objects are the advancement of public appreciation in, the arts, culture, heritage, and science, in particular (without limitation) by:

  1. providing for, or supporting, the establishment, maintenance, refurbishment and enhancement of other exhibitions and displays of such permanent collections.
  2. the advancement of education, particularly (but not exclusively), in relation to heritage, culture and the arts; and
  3. providing for, or supporting, the establishment, maintenance, refurbishment and enhancement of exhibitions and displays of the said permanent collections and the preservation and safeguarding of the land and the building in which they are housed:
  4. acquiring and maintaining suitable objects and works of art for inclusion in the permanent collections at the Royal Pavilion, Brighton Museum and Art Gallery and Museums of Brighton and Hove:

Activities

The charity seeks to achieve these objects by fundraising for RPM, making grants to support work across the five museum sites that match the charity’s stated aims. The charity runs a Membership and Patrons scheme that provides supporters with a range of benefits in return for their financial support.

In addition to the Membership and Patrons scheme, the Foundation runs regular appeals to raise funds for specific projects at the Royal Pavilion & Museums. For example, this could be for the restoration of a specific item in the collection, support for RPM’s Learning programme or for building restoration.  The Foundation continues to apply to Trusts, Foundations and grant makers for support of projects across the Royal Pavilion & Museums.
