The site and its activities are run by the Waltham Abbey Royal Gunpowder Mills Company Limited. Registered Charity 1062968.
The Royal Gunpowder Mills site is of cultural and historical importance the majority of which is designated a Scheduled Ancient Monument with many listed buildings.
The site is also recognised for its natural history and is home to an array of wildlife, and is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The charity's aims include, to protect, preserve and enhance the special aspects of the site and to share the story of the Industrial and Social History, the science and nature.
The charity works to ensure the site is preserved and enjoyed by the local community and visitors from further afield. The charity has staff and volunteers, who involve local groups and organisations, all of whom can be proud to be part of this important place.
RGM provides an interesting, educational and fun destination for all by opening the site and offering events, activities and interpretation of the related history, science and nature.
The Education Programme makes learning interesting and fun with a series of inspiring projects and experiments for KS1 and KS2 from Vikings to rockets and not forgetting the Gunpowder Plot of course.
There are facilities for corporate hire, specialist groups and filming on this unique and naturally beautiful heritage 170 acre site.
All these activities are designed to enable RGM to retain and share the heritage.
