Objectives

The RCOphth was set up by Royal Charter to advance the science and practice of ophthalmology. It is the professional body for eye doctors, with a membership of 4,000 and is responsible for the training and examination of medical doctors who want to become specialist eye doctors.

Activities

The College is the only professional membership body for medically qualified ophthalmologists and for those who are undergoing specialist training to become ophthalmologists.

It looks to its Lay Advisory Group for a lay perspective and sense check and Lay Advisors sit on every major RCOphth committee.
