The Roof of Africa SCIO is a Scottish registered charity providing a range of initiatives to the poorest communities in Tanzania from free education, family reunification programmes, food support, building homes to providing toilets.
Founded in 2016, our grassroots charity has grown from hiring a building to start a primary school to building our own. Initially 20 children were registered and we've now grown to nearly 250, with a waiting list.
Our school is showcased by the Tanzanian government with not only the teaching within the school but also our community work and projects to look after the planet.
As well as running our own primary school in Sonu, near the foothills of Mount Kilmanjaro, we also have satellite schools in other communities. Through the power of education, we aim to break the cycle of poverty.
The charity have no paid administration roles within the UK with the board of trustees responsible for promoting, fundraising and growing the charity. As the charity expands, so does our need to find new voluntary support.
