“The foodbank was there when we really needed it, it was an absolute lifeline”

We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

Our foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area. We started our foodbank in 2012 with £400 and 6 people and have expanded quickly. We are now open five days a week with a great set of volunteers who work hard and have fun too – we couldn’t do it without them, or without the great generosity of the people of Rochdale who help us in so many ways.

We have three foodbank centres located across Littleborough and Rochdale. We work with local churches, schools and community groups towards stopping hunger in our local area.

Through a network of local referral partners we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in hardship. We processed 5378 food vouchers last year (to April 2023), helping to feed 7494 adults and 4326 children. We might be the only person a client speaks to in a day and offer a warm welcome, a listening ear and signposting support to everyone visiting the food bank.

We recognise that budgeting when you’re on a low, or no, income can be incredibly difficult and stressful. That’s why our foodbank has partnered with money advice specialists to enable people who are struggling with financial difficulties to access expert help. This includes help managing or avoiding debt, help setting a budget, and making sure that people are accessing any finance available through grants or benefits.
