Objectives

Rise Up & Walk is a project funded by ‘We Move’ which is in partnership with BBC Children in Need and BBC Radio1 Xtra that targets young black & ethnic girls aged between 8-16 to use their voice to tackle subjects that matter to them and expand their minds to achieve greater, aim higher and build self-confidence. Our mantra is to Equip, Enable and Empower.

Activities

We know that young black people face many discriminatory issues and racial inequality on many levels in society today, causing missed opportunities and stunting their futures. Our plan is:

Improve the opportunities for Black children and young people in our community, so they can live life at their very best.

Enable them to become more aware of their rich, vast, interesting history, contributions to society and place within it.

Educate and empower children and young people to become an advocate for positive socioeconomic change and redress the balance of power in our communities to reflect all cultures as we are all stakeholders.

We will be running sessions that introduce speakers to the young people from a plethora of career paths - art & design, law, business, medicine, authors, chefs and many more. We want them to see successful black men and women achieving in their work so the youth can learn from them and pursue powerful career and life choices.

We will also be giving Critical Thinking classes to increase confidence and help them be able to articulate and navigate school and workplace situations with integrity and intelligence.
