Objectives

RicNic is a youth arts charity based in Walsall, West Midlands.  We support children and young people to build confidence, skills and creative ambition through providing free access to arts projects.  Set up by students in 2004, RicNic has always had young people at its core and adopts a youth-led model in all of its work; offering young people the chance to develop valuable experience as event producers, directors, designers and promoters as well as performers.  RicNic now works with young people from the age of 5-25 in a range of projects across the Midlands, Staffordshire and Cheshire.  We focus our work on areas away from major cities, where there are fewer opportunities for young people to access creative work experience or projects.

Activities

RicNic has a 4-strand programme of activity that we deliver to beneficaries in a range of projects each year

  • Own The Stage - a workshop programme helping children to gain their first experiences of theatre, drama and storymaking, or supporting young people to develop skills that will equip them for higher education and employment
  • Engage - a mentoring programme offering masterclasses, workshops and one-to-one support for young people looking to make a career in the creative industries.
  • RicNic Productions - events entirely created and delivered by a team of young people
  • RicNic Commissions - a programme supporting new writers, composers and directors to showcase their work

At our home location in Walsall, we now offer a weekly creative youth club and holiday clubs, supporting families in disadvantaged communities to explore creative activities, and promoting intergenerational learning between young people.

We also support young people to gain their first employment in the creative industries, offering paid placements within our staff team.
