Objectives

The Retreat Association is a Christian-based organisation which seeks to enable people to explore and deepen their spiritual journey through retreats and reflective activities. No other national organisation is currently fulfilling our role in offering this kind of support to all those who are looking for ways of finding meaning in their lives. We are rooted in our Christian faith, which gives inspiration to what we do as we strive to be open and inclusive, offering advice to whoever approaches us, whatever their background or belief.

We help a wide variety of people including: those at a time of change or difficulty in their life, those seeking guidance on how to find a retreat, practitioners seeking training and networking opportunities, retreat house wardens, those in ordained ministry, and those seeking meaning in their lives through stillness, silence and reflective activities.

Activities

  • Produce a range of resources for people to find Retreats, Quiet Days and Spiritual Directors. Our unique annual publication Retreats, contains information on 200 retreat centres.
  • Maintain our website as a comprehensive source of information.
  • Support retreat providers through sharing good practice, training and education.
  • Facilitate regional training days to enable our members to offer their local community the opportunity to find space for reflection.
  • Offer individual, appropriate and excellent impartial advice to general inquirers.
  • Encourage training and good practice in the ministry of spiritual direction or mentoring.
  • Facilitate a 3-day national conference every 3 years for some 260 members, retreat house wardens, leaders, spiritual directors and other practitioners, to enable an exchange of good practice and expertise.
  • Partner other organisations in order to offer retreat to those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
