Restorative Justice (RJ) processes bring those harmed by crime and those responsible for the harm into communication with each other, enabling everyone affected by a particular incident to play a part in repairing the harm and finding a positive way forward.
If both parties agree, an RJ Practitioner will work with both parties to communicate. This might be via letters or shuttling the information or in a meeting in a safe place with the Practitioner.
This process allows people to move on and feel less fearful of crime in the future. The harmed person can ask questions, explain what impact the event has had on their life. The person who caused the harm has a chance to to say sorry and to understand the impact they caused. RJ has been shown to reduce re-offending by upwards of 14%
We work closely with those who have been harmed and those who caused the harm. We facilitate communication to repair the harm.
This is an inclusive service and can involve supporting and recognising vulnerabilities for the residents of Dorset.
