Renew Politics, Rebuild Trust is a Citizen's Campaign whose purpose is to make progress to a more mature politics so that it can re-connect with the public and serve our interests. It will be progressed by enabling people power to become more responsible. This means that, for a better future, it is time for us, the public, to take responsibility for our politicians and the standards of acceptability within political discourse and activity. The relevant standards are those akin to those expected of doctors, lawyers and nurses and midwives whom we have no option but to trust.
The key deliverable is an improvement to the context within which the government functions, not engaging with specific inherently divisive issues. In this way, politics would be progressively renewed, and much of the damage done, for example, to our privacy rights and civil liberties, could be repaired.
Renew Politics, Rebuild Trust is a Citizen's Campaign operating a landing site and an active social media programme, part of which is blogging. The blog will review current issues and stories and relate them to the content and objectives of the campaign. For example, it could highlight the various misuses of government powers, such as privacy invasions and unnecessary accumulation of personal data, then set out some principles that, if applied, could lead to improvement, and finally suggest relevant solutions.
