The Redhills Charity was established in 2021 to hold in trust and manage the Grade II listed Redhills Miners Hall in Durham. Redhills harnesses the spirit of the Durham Miners Gala with a year-round programme of activity for people from across the coalfield and beyond.
Organising, coordinating, showcasing and championing people's heritage, Redhills will be at the heart of cultural life through its activities and community networks.
Engagement with the heritage of the coalfield will binds the people of Durham together in solidarity, inspiring collaborative action and achievement, building on the pride, confidence and hopes of our communities. Our sharing and celebration of the story of our communities attracts and engage a diverse audience from beyond the borders of the coalfield. To do this we are currently supporting the multi-million pound revitalisation of a building described by Historic England as one of the nation’s “100 Irreplaceable Places”. In 2022 the charity was invited to join the Arts Council of England’s national portfolio of regularly funded organisations and is playing a central role in a UNESCO World Heritage bid.
