Geographical remit:

ReCOM aims to help people benefit from getting online. Being IT literate is essential to participate fully in today's society. Yet many are still missing out; those most likely to be 'digitally excluded' are older people, manual workers, lower income households, and people with disabilities. We are dedicated to bridging this gap in our local community and aim to support local people to make long lasting life changes that help them lead more fulfilling lives and and build stronger communities.

In Solihull & Birmingham ReCOM supports the disadvantaged by providing digital skills training tailored to residents' needs. All our services are delivered in community venues. We have a pool of sessional tutors experienced in working with our target audiences and a substantial team of volunteers.

Our main activity is providing a range of community based digital skills training and support tailored for specific groups:

  • Supporting jobseekers to bring them closer to employment by helping them with their CV writing, learning how to use email, finding vacancies on job sites and completing on-line forms.
  • Running sessions for older people, helping them get to grips with their laptops and tablets enabling them to maintain their independence, make new friends and get the financial benefits of being on-line.
  • Supporting the housebound build skills and overcome isolation
  • Working in partnership with other local groups to reach people with challenging circumstances, such as recovering addicts and ex offenders.
