Reaching Higher provides wide ranging support to young people aged 12-21 predominantly from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds in Croydon. The young people who we work with are typically experiencing disadvantage and are at risk of involvement in crime, yet are hard to reach and disengaged from other services. This includes particularly vulnerable young people such as looked after children and care leavers. Last year we worked with over 400 young people and led a team of over 100 volunteers. All of our projects run with a particular emphasis in building trusting and lasting relationships with young people in order to provide mentoring support.
We engage with young people through positive activities including our football academy, music workshops, employability and leadership scheme, and summer scheme. Each of these projects involves a mentoring element. We also run a one to one mentoring programme, which provides more intensive, tailored support.
