Reach Inclusive Arts is based at the Wyvern Theatre in Swindon and works with people with disabilities and/or mental health issues to facilitate opportunities to experience art and drama as therapeutic media.
We place the emphasis on creating exciting work which conveys something authentic about the participants’ lives. The charity aims to leave a lasting sense of acceptance for disadvantaged people through exhibitions and performances which take place throughout the year. The work is focused very much on the needs of the participant.
We employ professional artists believing that high quality arts facilitate personal development and can be used to explore ideas, articulate feelings and foster social inclusion. Therapeutic benefit is derived through shared artistic endeavours which raise confidence levels, develop advocacy and social skills and reduce isolation.
Reach runs a weekly drama group called Partners Theatre Company facilitated by professional drama workers, All participants have either learning disabilities, mental health issues or sensory loss. The group devises dramas which are performed in a number of public venues and schools around Swindon, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.
Reach also runs a weekly art group for people who have experienced mental health conditions, again facilitated by professional artists. The group provides a high level of companionship as well as the therapeutic benefit of the artwork. The group go on sketching outings in the summer as well as exhibiting their work in public venues.
Reach also run drama projects with young people with learning or sensory disabilities or mental health issues, culminating in public performances.
