Rainbow Migration is a charity that promotes equality and dignity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex (LGBTI) people who seek asylum in the UK, or who wish to immigrate here to be with their same-sex partner.
We are dedicated to supporting and protecting LGBTI asylum seekers and refugees and work to promote the human rights of LGBTI people globally.
Those fleeing persecution and seeking asylum on account of their sexual orientation and gender identity are some of the most vulnerable groups within our society and face huge obstacles within the asylum process and discrimination and disadvantage including from their own UK based communities.
We Support LGBTI asylum seekers: providing support & information via our helpline and in person; referring to specialist solicitors for advice and representation; organising a monthly support meeting; visiting detention centres and running other social support projects.
Research & Policy: monitoring and researching developments and issues for LGBTI asylum seekers and refugees; researching human rights in countries of origin; working with government and partner organisations to ensure LGBTI people are treated equally and with dignity in the asylum process; seeking to improve the quality of the UK Home Office Visa & Immigration Service decision making in securing protection from return to countries where they are at risk of harm, and networking with organisations and individuals working on related issues in UK and internationally.
Training & Information: providing training and information on LGBTI asylum issues to relevant service providers in the refugee and LGBTI community, solicitors and other legal advisers, Home Office staff and the judiciary.
