Objectives

Rain Rescue provides a place of safety for pets in crisis. Founded in 2002, we operate from a leased site in Wickersley near Rotherham. The Centre has 16 kennels and 16 cat pens as well as enrichment areas and paddocks. We mainly help pets in and around the Yorkshire area. The majority of the dogs we help are strays from Local Authority pounds that would otherwise be destroyed after completing their statutory 7 days. Rather than simply offering the public a free re homing service, our ethos is to prioritise those pets most at risk irrespective of age, breed or medical condition. Consequently we take in a high number requiring emergency vet treatment, and also harder to re home pets such as bull breeds and semi-feral cats. We also take in pets from owners in crisis situations including referrals from Social Services and those facing eviction or financial hardship – being there for owners needing support as well as their pets is a key element of our work.

Activities

We undertake the following activities:

  • Proving a safe place for pets in crisis - either a foster home or kennel/cattery space
  • Supporting pet owners in crisis situations
  • Trap, neuter and release project for feral cats
  • Operating a charity shop
