Objectives

The Railway Benefit Fund, also known as RBF, is a charity that provides support to current, former and retired railway staff and their dependents across the UK. We’ve been here for railway people since 1858 and today, thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’re able to offer help to those who need us. From financial grants and confidential advice to online tools and a legal helpline, we provide a range of services designed to provide support through life’s unexpected events. Our assistance is available to anyone working, or who has worked, in the railway, including passenger, freight, infrastructure, supply chain and ancillary services. We are not a membership organisation and rely solely on fundraising and donations so we can continue to support our Railway Family.

Activities

RBF are here to provide financial support to improve circumstances and aid wellbeing. Our non-repayable grants can help you get back on track if you are on a low income or struggling with unexpected or unaffordable costs.

RBF provides free debt and legal advice through our specialist and qualified partners, as well as some information and useful links to organisations who can support you.

RBF has several tools to support you with financial and legal issues. Our Financial Health Assistant can help you understand your financial situation, and our digital tools from MoneyHelper provide assistance with budgeting, savings, universal credit payments and other financial situations.

We have several support services to help build financial resilience, support the needs of the retired railway community as well as a free will writing service for railway people and their friends and families.
