Radio Lollipop provides entertainment and care to patients at Birmingham Children's Hospital. We do this by ward visiting and radio presenting, providing the children and young adults with activities and fun on each shift. The patient's stay in hospital can be frightening, frustrating and confusing. We aim to provide 'normality' by providing play and our time on the wards also provides assistance to hospital staff and patient visitors.
We deliver Radio Lollipop service with an in-hospital radio station plus volunteers for ward visiting and one-to-one play with the children.
Aside from the above, a lot of work is carried out 'behind the scenes' to ensure the smooth running of volunteer recruitment, fundraising and all manner of enquiries and matters which may arise. This is why each Radio Lollipop station (ten currently within the UK), has its own Chairperson and management team structure supporting the volunteer team.
