Pushing Up The Daisies is a Scotland-wide charity working to take death out of instutions and back into our homes. We speak up for the quiet voices - often carers, usually women - to get the opportunity to keep someone close after their last breath. We advise people on their options to get meaningful connection in the period between someone's last breath and their funeral. We are currently in the exciting process of developing an after death assistance service to support people to take control and make memories and meaning to sustain them in their grief.
Since our founding in 2016 we have focussed on advice and education - to the general public and nurses. In the past year we have developed a successful online course with self-study and live discussion sessions. We have a network of people from across Scotland with an interest in this work. Pre-covid we organised network gatherings and workshops to bring members together. We encouraged network members to arrange "around the kitchen table" events - inviting a group of their friends, and having a workshop discussion over soup and cake.
