Objectives

Protect the Medics offers mental health support to medical professionals.

Medics often witness traumatising events at work, from injuries, sickness and often death, and most medics feel they can't talk to co-workers about their struggles as they don't want to appear weak or as if they aren't coping. They also struggle to speak to family members as a profession within healthcare, especially within hospitals, already takes up so much of the medics' lives, that the last thing they want to do is get home and spent the limited time they have with family talking about work.

We hope that our sessions will help the medics offload their stress, whilst also reducing the number of medics leaving the profession.

Our motto is: Protecting those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.

Activities

We offer both group and one-to-one support sessions with our qualified mentors (counsellors) in the hope that offering the medics somebody to talk to will help to ease the stresses of the workplace. Our group sessions are held virtually across the first week of every month, with various time slots available, to ensure that there will always be a session available regardless of the medics' work schedule. Our one-to-one sessions are mostly held weekly, also virtually, although exact timings can be discussed between medic and mentor.

Our sessions are completely free for the medics to ensure all of the support with none of the financial burden.

We have other services on the way and are always in need of volunteers to help us expand our charity and to offer advice and ideas.
