Objectives

For 35 years, Prospect Burma has worked to widen access to international higher education for Myanmar’s youth, supporting pathways to international study and funding scholarships for those marginalised by ethnicity, gender, socio-economic situation, conflict or displacement.

Prospect Burma has supported over 1,500 students on its scholarship programme and hundreds more through targeted post-secondary programmes in ethnic states and on Myanmar’s borders. In 2023, Prospect Burma launched Myanmar’s first ever online scholarship opportunity, and continues to respond in an agile way as the current crisis evolves.

Prospect Burma is registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, CIO number 1167686. Its UK-based team support local team members in Thailand and India, allowing us to remain as close as possible to our beneficiaries, and trusted partners on the ground.

Activities

We provide pathways to higher education for Myanmar’s most underserved young people. Our programmes currently cover two key areas:

Post-high school: supporting learning programmes that offer education in Grades 11 and 12, critical thinking, digital literacy, English Language and other essential skills. This programme is crucial in laying the foundations to assist a young person to access further education, or improve their career options and earning potential.

Higher education: providing scholarships to quality higher education abroad, either in-person or online. We select students who have a clear plan to use their chosen subject to support Myanmar’s future development.
