Objectives

PROMISEworks delivers inspirational mentoring to vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people in Somerset. We recruit, train and support volunteer mentors who, in turn, develop a long term relationship with their young person.  The mentor often represents the only consistent, trusted relationship in the young person's life, providing a safe space from where they can develop the confidence and resilience to manage their own futures.

Activities

Each mentor makes a promise to be with their young mentee for at least two years.  They usually meet with their young person on a regular basis for two to three hours.  Activities can range from sharing a cup of coffee to trips to sporting events or local attractions.  The pace at which the relationship develops is always set by the young person.  Over time, the mentor may become involved in helping the young person with their education and employment prospects or in building better links with networks and organisations in their own community.
