Objectives

At Plymouth (Drake) Sea and Royal Marine Cadets, we have three sections to our unit being; Junior Sea Cadets (10-12 year olds), Sea Cadets (12-18) as well as, a Royal Marines Cadet detachment (13-18).

We offer opportunities to gain qualifications from recognised awarding bodies, such as; the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), British Rowing, British Canoeing, St Johns Ambulance and BTECs in addition to all our own proficiencies and specialisations all up to instructor levels.

We cover subjects from:

  • First Aid
  • Marine engineering
  • Navigation
  • Catering
  • Diving
  • Adventure training
  • Meteorology
  • Shooting
  • Aviation
  • Seamanship
  • Drill & Turnout
  • Fieldcraft (& Tactics)
  • Duke of Edinburgh's award

As well as inshore/Offshore boating which includes:

  • Rowing
  • Paddlesports
  • Dinghy sailing
  • Windsurfing
  • Powerboating
  • Opportunities to experience life at sea on one of the vessels that make up our Offshore fleet.

Activities

Volunteers in different roles from Instructional Staff, Unit Management Trustee/ Team, Armed Forces Service Helpers and Parents Association / Occasional Helpers. 

From, instructors in the Sea Cadet Unit providing the physical Sea Cadet Experience to, Unit Management Team helping with administration, building or transport maintenance.
