We want to increase ocean literacy among members of coastal communities in England and also among the wider public.
By offering intimate talks where marine scientists and professionals can engage directly with local communities we wish to break the divide between science and society, foster a feeling of mutual benefit, increase ocean literacy and help empower coastal communities.
We want to bring together the professional marine community and communities along the English Coast by having a host of marine scientists and professionals walk stretches of the English Coast Path during the walking season 2021 (approx. April - October) and give talks in the villages, towns and cities they pass through. The idea being that by the end of 2021 the entirety of the ECP will have been walked by the marine community, with talks delivered in more than 180 locations. Apart from giving talks, participants can also blog about their walks and share pictures and impressions, thus introducing the English Coast to the digital public and highlight local issues on a national scale.
