Objectives

Playskill is the only charity in Hertfordshire providing free and potentially life-changing bespoke treatment therapies for children aged 10 months to five years old with a physical disability or delay. In weekly specialist playgroups, children work towards agreed targets with Physio, Speech and Language and Occupational Therapists. While playing alongside their peers they are learning to walk, talk and communicate. These therapy sessions can make a profound difference in the developmental progress of these children and their ability to fulfil their potential.

The charity also provides support and training for parents and carers as well as offering much needed free respite events for siblings and other family members. The Parent Support service guides them in some of the complex issues to do with housing, access to education and family issues. This support is a lifesaver to families in the early years and once children turn 5 years old, the graduate families can access ongoing support through further training and events if they wish to do so.

So it goes without saying that we really do make a tangible difference to the lives of our children and their families in the local area and we need to raise as much money as possible to keep providing these invaluable services

Activities

In 2022 alone we exceeded our targets and achieved the following:

  • 72 children and their families received our support in one of our 6 weekly groups across Watford and Hemel Hempstead
  • 60 graduate members received our support
  • 44 families were supported through our Springboard project
  • We provided 19 fully funded respite events for Playskill children, their siblings and their families
  • We delivered 36 fully funded training events for parents and carers
