Playing ON is creating a world where marginalised communities are better understood. We use theatre as a tool for those with lived experience to connect with gatekeepers in their lives and have their voices heard.
We disrupt cycles of disengagement by facilitating drama workshops and improvised performances among marginalised groups. Everything we do has a knock on effect and provides inspiration for scripted plays, which we perform in theatres before bringing them back to the original target groups. To date we have worked with prisoners and staff, mental health service users and providers, care experienced young people and social services transforming lives and improving the wellbeing of all.
We are currently working on two funded projects:
Raising The Roof, in partnership with Leap Confronting Conflict, working with care experienced young people. Through drama they will have the opportunity to explore the care context, build in confidence and develop a resource to build resilience in a care experience network.
Drilling Diamonds, in partnership with Lewisham College, Rose Bruford and The Albany, working with young people in Lewisham to create a piece of performance which will tour the borough as part of the 2022 Borough of Culture Celebrations.
We are continuing our work with East London NHS Foundation Trust using theatre to bring together service users and providers to develop coproduction opportunities in the care pathways.
