The Phoenix Space Program is our primary in-person STEM education program. We developed and launched it in 2020, starting with 5 cohorts of approximately 20 students each. In 2021 we were able to launch 8 more cohorts across 5 centres in Turkey, Lebanon and Syria reaching a total of 200 students. We expanded our educational offerings by starting the Phoenix Space Lecture Series, which hosted scientists from Max Planck Institute and Imperial College of London (among others) in interactive Q&A sessions following Arabic subtitled lectures by those academics. In January 2021, we launched our first STEM online learning course in partnership with Codecademy. The 60-hour course, Introduction to Python, was presented for free to 100 students across 2021, aged 17-25, from around the Middle East. We have also developed a partnership with Kiron, world’s biggest online learning platform for refugees, and launched our science lecture series on the platform in December 2021, as well as partnership with PwC that resulted in launching the first Data Analytics Phoenix Space x PwC Programme in January 2022. Over 100 teams from 29 countries registered for the first Phoenix Space LaunchPad Challenge - where young students were leading the race to design technological, sustainability and social innovations for a future Martian society. We have also developed and delivered a few other problem solving focused courses. We have also developed detailed impact measurement strategy and processes to be able to measure accurately and objectively the success of our programs.
All Phoenix Space program graduates are offered additional Phoenix Space courses participation, as well as introduced to other learning content (Kiron learning platform). We have been able to individually mentor and provide assistance to some of the students and recently partnered with Mosaik to deliver a Higher Education Guidance program to PS programs students and graduates.
We have established strong working relationships with several partners and centers on the ground in the Middle East, that allowed us to have a physical location and local expertise to present and develop our programs. We actively pursued additional academic partners and partnerships to support our learning programs and impact model, resulting in partnerships with Imperial College London and Hong Kong University, among others, as well as Codecademy, PwC, Kiron, QUISS, B2Space and Altruistic.
