Objectives

Our Mission is to promote the preservation, understanding and enjoyment of the history and cultures of Petersfield and the surrounding villages by showcasing the extensive and varied local history, archaeology and art of the area and the wider history of dress through exhibitions, research, education and outreach.

Activities

Today, Petersfield Museum preserves around 22,000 objects, photographs and documents and offers a wide-ranging programme of activities including temporary art and history exhibitions, workshops for schools, adult education talks, reminiscence sessions and family fun days.

Our new project, 'Pathways into the Past', is our exciting multi-million pound renovation and expansion project!

The National Lottery Heritage funded project will see our buildings, exhibitions and programmes transformed as well as the addition of two new galleries able to take travelling exhibitions from national museums, a servery and outdoor space in the courtyard, a new Edward Thomas Study Centre and much more. The project is estimated to be complete by the end of 2020. When the 're-developed' Petersfield Museum opens, visitors will find stunning collections and galleries that would make any community proud. We will have room to show far more of our collection than ever before and be able to tell the stories, not just of Petersfield, but the surrounding landscape and villages in innovative and exciting ways.
