Objectives

We’re a not-for-profit organisation whose objective is to create a better society by driving integration of marginalised communities and creating leadership roles for those lacking representation. Our main beneficiaries include refugees, asylum seekers, relocator families, as well as BAME communities in Britain. P.E.P. simply means ‘people empowering people‘ and that is what we wish to achieve at a grassroots level.

Activities

At our organisation we wish to drive integration and create leadership roles for those who are marginalised and underrepresented.  We achieve this by working directly with the BAME community and in collaboration with other organisations.

Our activities include hosting a refugee drop-in session at Haslingden Community Link for who need extra English support or general advice and guidance. The aim here is to develop the confidence of the refugees we work with to encourage routes back into education and employment.

Additionally we have a successful 'Empowering Women's Walk Club' aiming to encourage isolated women to go on walks around Hyndburn and Rossendale to improve their mental and physical health by meeting new people and keeping fit. Our Facebook group currently has 1,200 female members from a diverse range of backgrounds. It is now run independently by our volunteer walk leaders, providing these women with the opportunity to lead.

We also work in collaboration with other organisations and service providers. After identifying our beneficiaries' goals, and barriers, we offer them advice and guidance. As a small organisation, we understand it is difficult to accommodate everyone's needs, and therefore working with others helps us fulfill this objective as well as expand our outreach. We have strong links with the Jobcentre who refer us clients who would benefit from our services by providing employment and education support, as well as advice and guidance.  We also work closely and have forged strong links local institutions and organisations. Together we make our beneficiaries aware of paid and voluntary vacancies, events. workshops, and helpful services being offered in East Lancashire that aim to empower those we work with.
