The Penrose Club is a social club for adults with special needs and meets every Tuesday night at their clubhouse, Hengrove Hall, Station Crescent, Ashford. We have a varied schedule with the emphasis being on fun and friendship. Activities include discos, line dancing, karaoke, team competitions, quiz evenings, stars in your eyes, presentation night and visits from outside organisations. Every year we arrange a number of day trips such as a visit to an attraction, a theme park or zoo. In addition we organise canal boat trips on the Grand Union through Waterways who have specially adopted barges for wheelchairs.
The Penrose Club is very fortunate to have a great band of volunteers led by 2 co-leaders. The helpers regularly attend the weekly club nights and take responsibility in running the majority of the activities. In addition they give up their time to take the members on day trips and evening events.
The Penrose Club is totally self-funded and the marjority of the money needed to maintain the club and it's activities is raised by our fundraising chairman with some assistance from our members and helpers. The Penrose Club is also very grateful for regular donations from Runnymede & Spelthorne Mencap, local Rotary clubs and local businesses and individuals.
