Objectives

Pen Optical Trust was established in 2012 and it became a registered charity in 2015. It started as a small optical laboratory training a small group of prisoners in Standford Hill Prison in optical retail on Mondays. Through a pilot programme, its founder along with the small group of trainees shared their inspiring journey and its benefits with people and key influencers in the community which helped them secure funding that led to the establishment of the Pen Optical Trust.

The charity aims to reduce offending and build safer communities at zero cost to the taxpayer and it looks to the future to expand its training centres into additional locations in the UK

We're helping to reduce re-offending and build safer communities at zero cost to the taxpayer

Activities

  • Prisoners near the end of their sentence are recruited and then trained in Optical Assistant skills
  • We help certain prisoners gain employment in Optics
  • Employers benefit from well trained people who want to work in Optics
  • Together we give them a 2nd chance & reduce re-offending
