Objectives

To create opportunities for young professional singers from all backgrounds to develop and perform in high quality and innovative opera productions, thus preparing them for national and international houses.  We feel that it is only through the nurturing of these diverse talents that a new form of cultural harmony can be achieved.  This harmony encourages talent equally without regard to cultural heritage or ethnic background.

To demystify opera by making it accessible to as wide an audience as possible, actively involving a cross-section of the community.  This includes programming an accessible range of works and touring to a variety of medium-sized venues with the aim of reaching communities who would not normally have access to high quality opera.  The company’s community and education programme develops new audiences through special workshops and outreach programmes.

Activities

Pegasus Opera Company is a registered charity and the UK's leading professional, multiracial touring Opera Company. We have a long track record of staging high quality productions, while developing a new audience and presenting productions with which they can identify.

We exist to create opportunities for young singers who are primarily but not exclusively BAME ( Black Asian Multi Ethnic) and from all backgrounds to develop and perform in innovative opera productions. We strive to break down the elitist perceptions so often  associated with opera.

Our producitons are chosen from an accessible range of works which tour to medium sized venues, also providing educational programmes and developing new audiences through special workshops, outreach programmes and reaching thousands of children across London and the regions.

As an organisation, we hope to demonstrate the innate value and creativity that lies within a diverse community who work 'as one' with respect for individuality, equality and who aspire to a common purpose; to exalt the power and creativity of the human voice through opera.  In aspiring to realise this vision we will contribute to cultivating an art which serves the community and the world at large, harnessing a power which lies beyond discrimination and stereotyping.
