Objectives

We’re Pause, a national charity that works to improve the lives of women who have had – or are at risk of having – more than one child removed from their care, and the services and systems that affect them. Our vision is of a society where women who experience the removal of children into care are given the best possible support, so that it never happens more than once.

Women who’ve been on the Pause Programme achieve positive outcomes across multiple areas of their lives, including their mental and physical health, relationships with their children, as well as a growth in both confidence and self-esteem.

Activities

Pause Practices work directly with women, so that no woman should ever have to experience the removal of a child more than once. They offer an intensive, supportive 18-month programme that involves a trusting relationship between a woman and their Pause Practitioner.

Pause Practices are supported by the Pause national team, which focuses on wider sector influencing, to advocate for a relationship-based approach to social care and to create positive change in the systems and services that affect women.

There is a robust independent evidence base that demonstrates that the Pause Programme works. We have now worked with over 1,200 women across the country, making us the largest organisation doing this work. We harness this expertise and our learning and insight from women and Pause Practices to direct our training and consultancy offer.
