Objectives

We are a Oxford based LGBTQIA+ mental health charity who was awarded the Queens Award for voluntary service in 2006.

We have just celebrated over 35 years of providing support and a listening ear.

First registered as a charity in 1988 Oxford Friend is still providing the community with a confidential assistance helpline, in 2000 Oxford Friend helped to set up a national project National Coming Out Day.

We were present at the first Oxford Pride in 2003 and ran a fabulous tombola to raise funds. Our confidential email support service has been effective in assisting the community since 2005.

Our main funders are the City Council and we are grateful for their support and advice as we begin to evolve the service to provide a robust support network for another 35 years and beyond.

We also get asked to provide community education, training and to visit educational establishments and workplaces to ensure that local companies and communities are aware of LGBTQIA and mental health.

Activities

Currently we provide support via email, helpline and facebook.

int he past we have run coffee mornings, march in Pride and visit schools, universities and workplaces raising awareness and education around identifying as LGBTQIA+.
