Objectives

The OCBS was established in 2004. It is a Recognised Independent Centre (RIC) of the University of Oxford. It promotes the academic study within the University of Buddhist texts, societies, theories and practices. It is committed to maintaining the highest academic standards.

The OCBS also aims to promote understanding of the importance of Buddhist insights across a wide range of academic disciplines; and to work in partnership with leading institutions to apply approaches derived from studying Buddhism to contemporary issues.

It works hard to share the fruits of scholarship beyond the University.
