Objectives

Owlcotes Trust was founded in 2018 by its two co-founder schools, Pudsey Primrose Hill Primary School and Pudsey Waterloo Primary School, both two-form entry primary schools in the Pudsey area of Leeds. Calverley Parkside Primary School and Armley Park Primary School, both one-form entry primary schools in West Leeds, make up the rest of the Trust. The Trust was founded on the principles of working together to achieve excellence and a desire to provide excellent education opportunities and great outcomes for all pupils.

Multi-Academy Trust Trustees make a valuable contribution to children's education, opportunities and futures. Volunteering as a Trustee is a meaningful way to give back to a community but also to develop your own strategic skills and gain non-executive director experience. The role of a Trustee differs to that of a school governor. A Trustee is both a company director and a charity Trustee, and have more specific responsibilities than governors in Local Governing Boards. The main responsibilities of a Trustee is to:

  • Agree the strategic direction of the Trust.
  • Hold the Trust executive leadership team to account.
  • Provide oversight for the Trust's financial performance.

Trustees are ultimately responsible and accountable for the Trust and have a responsibility to comply with company and charity law.

There are no specific requirements to become a Trustee. Trustees are expected to have a willingness to work constructively and effectively in accordance to the ‘Nolan Principles: Standard of Public Life’. Owlcotes Multi-Academy Trust aims to have a Board of Trustees that is diverse, reflects the population of the school local communities and Leeds, and made up of people with a range of skills. Professional skills such as HR experience, law or finance are considered key skills needed on a Board of Trustees. Currently, Owlcotes Multi-Academy Trust are looking to recruit Trustees who can offer skills in the areas of growth management, HR, IT/technology, and legal compliance.

Activities

At Owlcotes Trust, we ensure that collaboration is at the heart of the Trust, building on the model of strong and successful collaboration that already existed between the two found schools. We have built a strong network of schools who work collaboratively to provide excellent teaching and learning and curriculum opportunities. Learning, attainment, and progress remain at the heart of each Owlcotes school and, as a Trust, we have developed a shared accountability of the outcomes of all children within our care. We make teaching as good as it can be by sharing best practices across the Trust, offering staff a range of CPD opportunities throughout the school year, and by attracting and retaining excellent staff.
