Over The Wall is a charity that helps children, young people and their families reach beyond the boundaries of serious illness to discover a world of mischief, magic and new possibilities. We do this by providing free of charge, transformative activity camps throughout the UK. We create an environment where children thrive, not just survive. Rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, Over The Wall provides a safe environment for children to build confidence and self-esteem while first-class medical care ensures our unique ability to cater for more than 130 different conditions. We aim to empower children with serious illness to become the hero of their own story.
There are an estimated 50,000 children and young people in the UK living with a serious health challenge. For these young people, quality of life is adversely affected by isolation and their inability to participate in many of the everyday activities enjoyed by their friends and peers. This often results in a growing lack of self-esteem and confidence which can become a barrier to future growth and development. Over The Wall’s residential programmes are designed to bring about transformational change to tackle these issues and to ensure our campers return home with a new sense of their abilities and ambitions, and feeling far less isolated.
Our vision is that all children and young people, living with the challenges of serious illness and disability, can access transformational therapeutic recreation camp programmes, free of charge. We tackle the associated issues of isolation, poor self-esteem and low confidence, ensuring our programmes improve the quality of life of the child by enouraging, exciting and inspiring them to regain their sense of optimism, possibility and hope.
Our camps provide first-class medical care for more than 130 different health conditions. We provide a 24-hour fully-qualified medical team, on site, that caters for all treatment and medication, changing of catheters/feeding tubes and dressing, to dealing with emergencies.
