Objectives

Out There supports families in Greater Manchester impacted by the imprisonment of a loved one. We talk about families serving the sentence outside, often suffering the financial and emotional consequences of imprisonment. The majority of those who come to us for support are the female relatives of prisoners and often they have dependent children. We offer 1 to 1 support and a range of activities to encourage the wellbeing and resilience of families. National research conducted by Lord Farmer and others demonstrates the importance of this work, we get positive feedback from families about the support offered and we measure the impact of what we do through the use of outcome stars when working 1-1 with families. The charity was founded by the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent De Paul and its values are still based on those of the founder, St Vincent.

Activities

We offer the following to families:

  • 1 to 1 family support through an allocated family support worker.
  • Family Days and activities where families get to take part in recreational activities to meet others and build relationships with others.
  • Wellbeing Days and activities.
  • 1 to 1 work with children.
  • Family Forums for families to meet and ask questions of local prison staff.
