Objectives

Our main beneficiaries lie geographically around 5miles around the Clitterhouse Farm buildings. The farm sits within the site of a long awaited regeneration that has caused significant regeneration blight.  The Golders Green and Childs Hill ward both fall into some of the 20% most deprived parts of the UK and the area surrounding the farm lacks any community infrastructure to support community cohesion. The farm was due for demolition as part of the regeneration so by saving it and aiming to restore it for community use we have begun the process of developing a space that is created by and for the local community. Over the last 6yrs we have run events, workshops and creative consultations to ascertain the needs and desires of the local community and through the act of real grassroots community organising and engagement, we have saved the buildings and been able to deliver a beautiful community garden and kiosk cafe. We crowdfunded to build a larger cafe for the community in 2018 which is currently under construction. Our space is accessible and welcoming to all of the community and as such all the events and workshops we have run have begun the process of connecting our community and starting to build long term community resilience. Without the farm as a point of connection and focus the future vision of the area and the lives of our community would be in the hands of the council and developers - our project aims to shift that power imbalance and ensure that every individual in the community has the opportunity to learn, create, share and connect with themselves and their neighbours in a way that builds individual and collective power.

Activities

We have been quite successful with grant funding over the last 5/6yrs and we have used these funds to deliver regular diverse range of activities, workshops and events that have been able to showcase the incredible potential that lies within our community.  Through people connecting through shared experiences and hopefully learning new skills and making new friends we have begun the process of building a resilient connected community that is taking control of this incredible heritage asset.  Over the coming months we will be opening several workshop spaces and a community cafe and use these spaces to support small local enterprise, in doing so support a long term vision for a self sufficient thriving charity/social enterprise that contributes to both the physical and financial wellbeing of the local community.
