OSCAR International is a UK-based charity (registered company & charity under Oscar India Ltd.) that is dedicated to supporting the OSCAR Foundation in India by raising awareness and funds and creating opportunities for children living challenging lives in the most deprived communities in India. In keeping with the core values and ethos of OSCAR in India, OSCAR International runs energetic fundraising campaigns, delivers education and life skills programmes and promotes awareness of OSCAR and the issues they address.
The OSCAR Foundation’s mission is to create a world which enables girls and boys living in low income communities in India to become role models within their communities. OSCAR uses the power of football to teach the importance of education, and all OSCAR children must attend school. Education transforms disadvantaged communities and provides young people the tools they need to fight poverty for the next generation. Oscar Foundation is an India registered NGO.
Today OSCAR engages close to 3,500 children in Mumbai and Karnataka state who all attend school regularly. They are also expanding into other locations including Rajasthan. OSCAR’s activities are delivered through a range of programmes:
The OSCAR Young Leader Programme empowers young people to mentor and inspire youth in their own communities to stay in education, resist early marriage and the inevitable youth pregnancy, and inspire them to make the necessary changes for their families and wider community to have a better life.
The OSCAR Education Programme offers interventions in Early Childhood Education, Remedial Education, and Digital Learning in low-income communities. OSCAR’s Early Learning Centre is designed for school readiness in young children and to prevent late enrolments.
OSCAR International has achieved a huge amount since it was founded 5 years ago in terms of awareness raising, network building and ultimately fundraising (2022/3 revenue of £163k). Notable achievements include an annual schools tour, a child sponsorship programme, numerous events for ‘friends of OSCAR’ and deep relationships with schools and football clubs across the country.
