Objectives

One In A Million (OIAM) is a Bradford based charity that engages predominantly with disadvantaged children and young people, through Sports, Arts and Enterprise. Our core values of compassion, honesty, integrity and excellence are at the heart of all we do. Our name reflects our philosophy: every child is valued and unique.

OIAM Free School opened in September 2013. We are a small secondary school with classes sizes of no more than 25 students. We are continuing to grow each year and by 2019 we will be full including a sixth form. Each year we are oversubscribed for places, but we will remain a small school. Relationships are key to our offer and we will always adopt a family approach so that students feel valued and connected.

Our curriculum is broad and balanced, ensuring students acquire strong basic skills in literacy and numeracy, personal, social and emotional learning and create ‘character’. Our school day ensures quality time for personal, instructional, conceptual and collaborative learning experiences.

Our staff nurture and develop a deep sense of self-worth, pride and ambition in all our students. All students in our school will be seen as unique - as ‘one in a million’.

Since One In A Million started its first community project in Canterbury, Bradford, in 2006, we now deliver formal education and community programmes to over 1,800 children and young people every week. Our ‘Hub and Spoke’ vision places our Free School at the centre of what we do.

Activities

One In A Million’s charitable objectives are implemented through five main departments: Community, Corporate Events and Sponsorship, OIAM Free School, Positive Lifestyle Centre and Youth Offending Team.

  • Community – provides over 35 sports, arts and enterprise themed activities which are delivered through our engagement, enrichment and enhancement curriculum programmes.
  • Corporate Events and Sponsorship – is our fundraising department. Their work is split into two areas; restricted and unrestricted funding and includes a programme of events and activities to engage individuals and businesses to support our work.
  • OIAM Free School – is a secondary school established as an academy. Our curriculum is broad and balanced with a strong emphasis on sports, the arts and enterprise.
  • Positive Lifestyle Centre – is a ‘prevention educational programme’ focused on creating responsible citizens. Delivery is initially aimed at primary schools providing an out of school experience.
  • Youth Offending Team – in partnership with Bradford & District Youth Offending Team, we work with young people involved within the criminal justice system.
